To simplify ODBC administration and reduce the number of components at a client workstation, several companies have products that move much of the ODBC infrastructure to an ODBC server. Client workstations need only one ODBC driver and network library (in addition to the ODBC Driver Manager), instead of separate client drivers for each type of data source accessed. The ODBC server hosts drivers for one or more types of back-end data sources.
